Flow-Restricting Seal Ring

Description: The flow-restricting seal ring of a hydrogen compressor is a wear-prone part of the stuffing box assembly of a reciprocating compressor. It is assembled inside the stuffing box and used together with the tangential seal ring, surrounding the piston rod; it is used in high-pressure hydrogen conditions and provides throttling, pressure reduction, and auxiliary sealing.

Main Functions

It throttles and restricts the high-pressure hydrogen escaping along the piston rod clearance, gradually reducing the gas pressure and relieving the differential pressure load on the main seal ring.

It prevents the high-speed gas from impinging directly on the main seal ring, reducing gas flow erosion and lowering the leakage velocity of the medium.

It blocks some impurity particles, reducing the number of particles entering the friction surface of the main seal ring, slowing wear of the main sealing parts, and improving the overall working conditions of the stuffing box.

Structural Material

Split-type open ring structure, generally a single-piece cut ring or a multi-segment type; filled PTFE and PEEK wear-resistant engineering plastics are selected for hydrogen conditions, being hydrogen embrittlement resistant and self-lubricating; it has no strong radial clamping spring and does not perform the main sealing and clamping function. It is assembled in the stuffing box groove as a set and paired with the tangential seal ring in sequence.
