First-stage piston ring

Main functions

Seals clearance gap between piston and cylinder‑liner inner‑wall; stops compressed‑hydrogen leakage from compression‑chamber towards crankcase to sustain first‑stage compression pressure and gas‑delivery capacity. It scrapes minor lubricating‑oil residues from cylinder‑liner wall, lowers oil carry‑over in hydrogen and supports piston heat dissipation.

Structural materials

‑ Split open‑ring design; ring‑gap compensates thermal expansion.

‑ For hydrogen‑compression service: self‑lubricating filled‑PTFE composite, wear‑resistant and hydrogen‑embrittlement‑resistant, adapted for alternating‑load operating conditions. Normally multiple‑rings assembled in stacked configuration.
