Third-Stage Tangential Seal Ring

Description: The third-stage tangential seal ring of a hydrogen compressor is the core dynamic-sealing wear-prone part of the stuffing box assembly of a reciprocating hydrogen compressor. It is assembled in the third-stage stuffing box and works with the radial ring and preload spring to reciprocate around the piston rod, preventing the third-stage high-pressure hydrogen from leaking outward along the rod.

Main Functions

It grips the outer surface of the piston rod and forms the main seal between the piston rod and the stuffing box, preventing high-pressure hydrogen from leaking out along the rod clearance.

It withstands the pressure differential of the third-stage operating conditions, releases pressure in stages, and works with the radial rings to block the leakage paths, reducing external leakage from the stuffing box.

The preload spring on the outer ring compensates for ring wear and keeps the ring pressed against the piston rod, maintaining the sealing performance of the packing and keeping packing vent leakage within the allowable range.

Structural Material

Three-segment arcuate tangential split ring, with a spring groove on the outer ring and a matching bracelet-type preload spring; filled PTFE and PEEK wear-resistant engineering plastics are used for high-pressure hydrogen conditions, featuring self-lubricating, hydrogen embrittlement resistant, and temperature resistant properties; it is used as a set with radial rings, with positioning pins keeping the cuts staggered, and is installed in the stuffing box groove.
