Stuffing Box Seal Ring

Stuffing Box Seal Ring

Description: The stuffing box seal ring of a natural gas compressor is a core wear-prone part of the reciprocating compressor piston rod assembly. It is assembled in the stuffing box and reciprocates around the piston rod, preventing high-pressure natural gas in the cylinder from leaking outward along the rod.

Main Functions

It seals the gap between the piston rod and the stuffing box housing, preventing high-pressure natural gas from leaking out of the cylinder and reducing the risk of medium leakage.

It withstands the interstage pressure differential, releases pressure in stages, and gradually reduces the gas pressure at the piston rod.

Some combined seal rings also act as oil scrapers, preventing cylinder lubricating oil from escaping and ensuring on-site safety of the unit.

Structural Material

Mostly combined seal rings, assembled from tangential seal rings, radial flow-restricting rings, and spring preload components; filled PTFE wear-resistant engineering plastic is used for high-pressure natural gas conditions, and some rings are fitted with bronze reinforcement parts; the spring provides radial clamping force and fits against the outer surface of the piston rod, and the assembly is installed as a set in the stuffing box.
