Second-Stage Piston Ring

Description: The second-stage piston ring of a natural gas compressor is a core wear-prone part of the reciprocating compressor piston assembly. It is assembled in the second-stage piston ring groove and reciprocates with the piston; it is used for high-pressure natural gas sealing in the second-stage cylinder and is divided into gas rings and oil rings.

Main Functions

It seals the annular gap between the second-stage piston and the cylinder liner, prevents high-pressure natural gas from leaking into the crankcase, maintains the compression pressure of the second-stage cylinder, reduces gas leakage, and ensures the compressor discharge volume and working efficiency.

The oil ring scrapes away excess lubricating oil from the cylinder wall, forming a proper oil film, preventing a large amount of lubricating oil from entering the gas passage, and reducing friction and wear on the piston and cylinder liner.

It withstands the pressure differential of the second-stage cylinder, shares the gas pressure, and improves the stress conditions of the piston.

Structural Material

Open annular structure, with multiple gas rings combined with oil rings; filled PTFE and modified engineering plastics are commonly used for high-pressure natural gas conditions, and some rings are fitted with bronze reinforcement rings, featuring self-lubricating, wear-resistant, and oil and gas corrosion resistant properties; the ring body has an opening to compensate for thermal expansion during operation and is installed in the piston ring groove.
