Description: A single mechanical seal is a dynamic shaft-end seal for centrifugal pumps. Relying on one set of seal faces, it prevents the pump medium from leaking outward along the shaft. It is mainly used where there is no highly toxic, flammable, or explosive medium; its simple construction requires few support systems.
Seals the gap between pump shaft and pump casing to prevent the conveyed medium from leaking out at the shaft end.
The spring presses the rotating and stationary ring faces together to form an extremely thin liquid film that seals while lubricating and cooling the seal pair.
Accommodates axial movement during pump operation and compensates for face wear.
It mainly consists of a rotating ring, a stationary ring, a spring, a thrust collar, an O-ring seal, and a sleeve. The rotating ring turns with the pump shaft; the spring provides the clamping force that keeps the rotating and stationary ring faces tightly mated. In operation a medium liquid film forms between the faces, both lubricating and cooling the friction surfaces and blocking medium leakage. Generally, process-fluid self-flushing is used, eliminating the need for an external isolation-fluid system.
