Description: The thickener screen (also known as pressure wedge wire arc screen or wedge wire screen (Johnson screen)) is a core vulnerable spare part for gluten (vital wheat gluten / gluten protein) concentration and dehydration in corn starch production. Installed inside pressure wedge wire arc screens or centrifugal screens, it serves as key filtration media to realise solid liquid separation, concentration and dehydration of gluten slurry. Under operating pressure, gluten slurry flows at high velocity across the screen surface. Water and fine particles pass through slot openings for discharge, while concentrated coarse gluten fractions slide down the screen surface for collection, completing gluten concentration and washing workflows.
Screen bars (wedge shaped wires): Core filtration element; stainless steel trapezoidal cross section wedge wires arranged in parallel to form uniform slot openings.
Support ribs: Transverse support bars, welded to fix wedge wire bars and secure overall screen panel structural strength.
Screen frame: Curved or flat stainless steel frame for mounting wedge wire assembly onto screening equipment.
Curve forming: Curved screen panels are bent to match equipment curvature and fitted against arc screen cavity inner walls.
Edge sealing: Sealing strips fitted along screen panel edges to prevent slurry bypass and leakage.
Operates on combined pressure filtration and centrifugal sieving principles:
1. Pressurised feeding: Diluted gluten slurry is pressurised by pump and tangentially sprayed onto arc shaped screen surface under defined working pressure.
2. Arc surface flow: Slurry flows at high velocity along curved screen profile, held tightly against screen surface by centrifugal force and gravity.
3. Screening separation: Water and fine particles smaller than slot opening pass through slots as filtrate; gluten particles larger than slot opening are retained on screen surface.
4. Coarse fraction collection: Retained concentrated gluten slides along curved screen surface and discharges through bottom coarse material outlet.
5. Self cleaning performance: High velocity flowing slurry continuously rinses screen surface, mitigating particle wedging inside slot openings and enabling uninterrupted screening operation.
High separation accuracy: Uniform wedge wire slot openings deliver separation precision down to 25 μm for stable concentration performance.
Wear resistant & long service life: Fabricated from 304 / 316L stainless steel wedge wire; high hardness and excellent abrasion resistance.
Anti clogging geometry: Trapezoidal cross section (inlet narrow, outlet wide) prevents particle wedging and provides reliable self cleaning properties.
Food grade construction: Full stainless steel build, corrosion resistant and easy to clean; complies with food hygiene standards.
Wide range customisable specifications: Slot opening range 25 500 μm; curvature and overall dimensions configurable per host equipment model.
Convenient replacement: Modular screen panel design; individual panels can be swapped out without complete screen machine disassembly.
High separation efficiency: Large per unit area throughput and favourable gluten recovery yield.
