Pre-tensioned sealing lip runs against the rotating pump-shaft surface to form a dynamic sealing barrier. Prevents outward high-pressure-media leakage along the shaft journal. Blocks dust, particulate contaminants and cooling-water ingress to preserve bearing lubrication environment and reduce wear. Lip pre-load elasticity compensates for minor shaft run-out and surface wear.
Steel-plate reinforced metal insert as backbone. Sealing lip: FKM fluoroelastomer for high-pressure or chemical-resistant duties; NBR nitrile-butadiene rubber for general-purpose. Assembly includes metal insert, rubber matrix and self-energizing garter spring; spring maintains lip contact pressure against shaft surface.
