Metering Pump Shaft Seal - Sugar

Description: Liquid-end dynamic-seal assembly for plunger-type metering pumps, fitted inside stuffing box. Separates pump-head process media and gear-box lubricant; prevents media leakage and oil contamination of process stream; key metering-pump wear part. (Diaphragm-type metering pumps have no plunger shaft seal; only drive-side oil seal is applied.)

Main Types

1. Packing Seal (Plunger metering pump typical): V-type fabric-reinforced packing or PTFE braided packing, compressed via packing gland. Suited for high-pressure service; permits minor controlled weepage for interface lubrication; gland retightening and periodic packing replacement required.

2. Modular Combined Plunger Seal: PTFE + FKM composite lip seal with elastic pre-load compensation; zero weepage performance, widely adopted within chemical-process industry.

Material Selection (by process media)

• General acid-alkali service: PTFE, FKM fluoroelastomer

• Oil-bearing media: NBR nitrile-butadiene rubber

• Particle-laden media: Glass-fiber or graphite filled reinforced PTFE

Main Functions

1. Seals reciprocating plunger clearance, blocks process-media leakage and mitigates chemical-splashing safety hazards.

2. Stops media crystals and solid particles entering drive case and protects cross-head assemblies and bearings.

3. Prevents transmission-case lubricant from migrating into pump head and contaminating process stream; sustains stable metering precision.
