Supports shaft-seal assemblies; some end-cover castings integrate bearing seats to provide radial pump-shaft positioning. Provides connection interface for process nozzles or cooling passages; withstands operating pressure and protects internal rotating-group components.
Cast iron or cast aluminum for general-purpose; stainless steel for corrosive chemical-process conditions. Machined with sealing grooves and shaft bore; precision-machined mating faces; mated with gaskets for end-face sealing.
